Delizioso Gusto

Living in Moncton my whole life, I've realized that the only way to keep my self sane is to go out and venture to discover the ins and outs of the city I've called my home for so long.
These past few months I have visited so many new stores and restaurants that I never had thought about looking at twice, the one that truly stuck with me was Gusto Italian Grill & Bar.

Gusto is a new Italian style restaurant off of Main Street in Moncton that has recently opened. Not only have they been non-stop busy for the few months they've been open, but they also have the most amazing Italian decor; dimmed lighting, big stove oven and a wall filled with wines.

Not only was the first impression very well perceived, but the service was so incredible. Our waiter knew every detail about the food and had an enthusiastic attitude the whole time.
The menu consisted of all Italian options that were beyond desirable along with the wide variations of drinks on the menu!

Having a full night ahead of me I did not want to order anything big so I stuck with an appetizer (still a huge food portion), the Parmesan Chicken was absolutely delicious paired with a tomato sauce and cheese dip. Our meals also came with a side of Italian bread, all you can eat, dipped in olive oil and special spice that Italians normally use.

Along with the amazing food, service and perfect atmosphere; our night ended with the restaurant owner thanking us for our service and a free dessert for the birthday girl.

Overall, the experience was wonderful and hopefully inspires others to try out new foods and restaurants in their area for a greater sense of international foods that can be found right in their own cities!

Travellin' the East Coast

This past weekend, I journeyed out to Nova Scotia to visit some of my best friends in university. Between me and all of my closest high school friends, they all ventured off to different provinces to continue their schooling and left me back home in Moncton, NB. Being a college student, I can only gather enough time and money to visit every now and then so with this said; I was so unbelievably excited for school to end on Thursday and start my little adventure!

Maritime Bus Terminal, waiting for the transfer bus

Friday morning I arrived bright and early for my morning departure with Maritime bus with my suit case filled with clothing and food, quite possibly a little bit of my special apple juice to prepare for a perfect weekend.

Il Dolce, Wolfvilles NS

After my 7 hour bus ride, I had finally arrived in Wolfville! My friends and I started off my visit with some food and a coffee date at Il Dolce, which is by far the BEST place for hot beverages known to mankind (in my opinion even better than Starbucks) I had a Cafe Mocha with whipped cream and was served to us while we seated in the comfiest red chairs in their seating area.

Throughout the weekend, my friends showed me around the Acadia campus and around Wolfville. It is a very small town with lots of beauty and unique boutiques and bars! Without a doubt, there is all kinds of parties to be found and plenty of university students at every turn. We spent most of our time sitting in cafe's talking for hours and catching up on all the time we've missed.

If ever given the opportunity, I would most definitely return for another round of coffee at Il Dolce and Crepe desserts from The Naked Crepe! I can only hope they will make their way to Moncton sometime in the near future.

Though my visit was short, I loved every minute of it, even the 7 hour bus rides! Something about a group of people on a bus to different destinations that reminds me that there are people out there that find happiness and peace while travelling as much as me, even if it means sitting on a bus looking out the window reading a book for so long.

If there is one main thing i can take from this trip it is the ladies working at the Dartmouth bus terminal in Halifax. My whole life I've heard of how polite and nice Canadians are, but it really shows all throughout the east coast in all of my travel experiences! These ladies specifically were incredibly polite and gave the best customer service around making it more pleasurable to travel!

Acadian History Adventures!

Last summer, my family and I decided it would be a good idea to travel around the area we are from and explore and take in what we have around us. Who says you have to take a trip out of the country to explore and learn new things?

Fort Beausejour is about a 45 minute drive from my hometown Moncton, into Aulac, New Brunswick. It is recognized for its star shaped battlefield and small museum-like building filled with history of the battle grounds between the Britain and France! In the museum, they have several video displays of past events and history that has taken place in those fields so you can learn all about it. Also, you can find old bibles and items in enclosed containers which belonged to the Acadian men whom once battled on these fields!

I definitely encourage all culture/history buffs to take some time to visit this place, especially for those Acadians out there! There's a great accomplishment feeling when learning a little bit of fun facts on your last name. I learned an incredible amount of new things about the Acadian history and about my family's last name Landry, through this and all of the informative museum members, it was an overall great experience!

Moncton Hub City

                              Moncton, New Brunswick

The City of Moncton is not only the place I grew up in but is also a place full of beauty and many fun activities! One of our most popular attractions is the water park called Magic mountain. This park is the largest man made water park in all of Atlantic Canada, with lots of water slides, a wave pool, hot tub, lazy river, kamikaze and plenty more; it is perfect for a family outing or a nice refreshing day out with friends.

Just around the corner from the water park is one of Monctons newest attractions, The Casino. The Casino has lots of fun events that happen every weekend such as, special guests, concerts and stand up comedies. There is plenty of food choices, different buffets and plenty of different drinks at the bars. The casinos hotel is a signature attraction where plenty of people stay for those special events.

Next, we have the Champlain Mall found right outside of Moncton in Dieppe. Champlain Place was named after Samuel Champlain, a french explorer of the region. The Champlain Mall is the largest single building shopping center in all of Atlantic Canada by floor space, with over 150 shops and services!

The First Blog!

Hello, my name is Monica Landry, I'm from Moncton, New Brunswick. I've recently enrolled in the Travel and Hospitality course at Oulton College to pursue my career and to make my dream to travel the world a reality.

When trying to decide what to do with the rest of my life, I quickly realized that I would not be happy working in an office, or generally returning to the same boring job every Monday; however,a life full of new adventures, discovery, and excitement was definitely the career choice for me. I could not be more thrilled to start this excursion! I believe if you are surrounded by beauty everyday it is truly a blessing, so join me on my life journey around the world!
